While the vineyard settles into winter renewal, we turn inward to gratitude—and outward to share the season’s Groundstar-grown wines. Read on for inspiration and curated links to stock your cellar for the holidays and beyond.

A Season of Gratitude, Rest & Renewal
As the calendar turns and the vines at Groundstar Vineyard begin their winter pause, we find ourselves in a season of quiet gratitude and meaningful transition. This year has been one of firsts — full of intention and rooted in our belief that when the land thrives, the resulting wines reflect that vitality, clarity, and sense of place.
Our First Biodynamic 500: A Milestone Moment
One significant milestone this year: we’ve just initiation our first Biodynamic 500 preparation — a foundational element of Biodynamic farming. For those unfamiliar, the 500 prep is a special cow-horn compost mixture buried through the winter months, then applied as a spray in the growing season to awaken soil life and strengthen root vitality. It’s a ritual of rest and renewal, a nod to ancestral farming wisdom, and a natural extension of our regenerative viticulture ethos.
Gratitude for the Groundstar Team
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us in this process, bringing curiosity, intention, and good energy to the work. A special thank-you to Jordan Lonborg, our regenerative and biodynamic advisor, for guiding us step by step and helping us honor the tradition with care and understanding. We also thank our employees, and Jeff Newton and the team at Coastal Vineyard Care for an incredible year of dedication and hard work.
With this first 500 preparation nestled cozily in the earth, we feel the land settling into winter rest — quietly preparing for the unseen work of life beneath the surface.
Make it Groundstar-Grown for the Holidays
Meanwhile, as our vines lie dormant, we shift our human energy inward: to gatherings with family and friends, to fireside reflections, to the simple joy of slowing down. At Groundstar, we believe that stewardship includes the land and the people.
We are deeply grateful for the winemakers who transform our grapes into expression — carrying forward a year’s worth of sun, soil, sweat, and soul into thoughtful, small-production wines that reflect Groundstar’s energy and place. It is a privilege to see our vineyard’s name on so many distinctive bottles, each one a collaboration and a unique voice of the Sta. Rita Hills.
The holidays call us to gather, share, and savor — and what better way than through wines made by winemakers who share our values of community, craftsmanship, and care for the land?
